The Slovensky Cuvac History
Slovak Rough-haired Pointer has a rustic appearance with regular shape, strong legs, a deep muzzle, and large pendant ears. FCI developed the standard for this breed. The Eyes of young Slovak Rough-haired Pointers may be “azure” and amber for adults. Their Nose and eyelids are dark. Slovak Rough-haired Pointers have an intelligent and alert expression. Chest and Feet are white. Coat has both lighter and darker shades to the point of speckling.
Where did the Slovensky Cuvac Come From?
They originally came from the Czechoslovakian Mountains back as the 17th century. A man by the name of Dr. Antonin Hruza of the Brno School of Veterinary Medicine saved the breed with his successful breeding program after World War II.
What Were They Bred For?
Breeders created the Slovensky Cuvac to be a flock guardian. Their are other tasks these dogs are good at such as hunting big game, border patrol and search and rescue.
